Following the Newtown shooting spree, Dick’s Sporting Goods changed their policy and stopped selling AR-pattern and other semi-automatic, magazine-fed rifles, even the guns they had already sold.
If there’s a silver lining for all the people who were eagerly waiting for that Troy Carbine and were vastly dissappointed, it’s that Dick’s isn’t doing so well in the financial department.
At a time where the only thing a company has to do to sell firearms, ammo and accessories is to unlock their doors, Dick’s sales have flat-lined. In fact, their sales dropped 2.2 percent in the fourth quarter of 2012 compared to 2011.
The customers who bought the black Friday special carbine were issued gift cards. If I were one of them I would sue for my cash back. This was not a stocking issue, this was a purely political motivated descision. I have not and will not set foot in a Dick’s store again.

The law already requires licensed gun dealers to run background checks, and over the last 14 years that’s kept 1.5 million of the wrong people from getting their hands on a gun. But it’s hard to enforce that law when as many as 40 percent of all gun purchases are conducted without a background check. That’s not safe. That’s not smart. It’s not fair to responsible gun buyers or sellers.
This was parroted by news outlets and organizations all across the country and by Vice President Biden on January 17 to the U.S. Conference of Mayors. Now let’s look at where this figure comes from.
The White House says the figure comes from a 1997 Institute of Justice report, written by Philip Cook of Duke University and Jens Ludwig of the University of Chicago. This study is based on data collected from a survey in 1994, just the Brady law requirements for background checks was coming into effect. (In fact, the questions concerned purchases in 1993 and 1994, while Brady law went into effect in early 1994.) In other words, this is a really old figure.
The data is available for researchers to explore at the Interuniversity consortium on political and social research (ICPSR) at the University of Michigan. Digging deeper, we find that the survey sample was just 251 people. (The survey was done by telephone, using a random-digit-dial method, with a response rate of 50 percent.) With this sample size, the 95 percent confidence interval will be plus or minus 6 percentage points.
So the data is older than the NICS check system. The question was “did you buy a gun from a licensed gun dealer?”. Why are they using this figure to show the percentage of background checks today. It would be like going to 1930 and asking people if they bought their car from a dealer or individual then using that to show the percentage that wore seat belts. Seat belts were not even offered in cars in America until 1949.
The 95% confidence interval was +/- 6 points so the number could have just as easily been rounded down to 30% as it was up to 40. The lasted estimate published for the number of guns bought at gun shows was 3.9%. Let us just go by liberal logic for a second. If the same numbers hold true today as they did in 1993-1994 when the survey was conducted then the actual number of guns that are sold with no background check is 1.17 to 1.56 percent, not 40 percent. Add on top of that, some states have mandatory background checks at gun shows already. This would lower the figure. Take into account that many of these are people buying guns for their spouses, children or other family members and the figure gets even lower.
Now why are they trying to close the non-existent “gun show loophole”. How would it even work? How would they even know if you had sold your personal property without tracking the guns themselves. That’s right, the whole point of the universal background check system is gun registration. So you can believe Obama or not when he said he would not be coming for your guns.
These people, the FBI says, do not believe they have to answer to any government authority and can cause a number of problems for law enforcement authorities.
But according to Trowbridge’s letter, Kluczynski went much further, including “those who believe America was founded on godly principles, Christians who take the Bible literally, and ‘fundamentalists’.”
The article further went on to say
Trowbridge said that according to Kluczynski, these individuals and groups are “dangerous” because they are “angry over the election of a black president.”
When an attendee suggested the economy was probably more to blame, Kluczynski “intimated that those who are not going along with the changes in America will need to be controlled by law enforcement,” Trowbridge added.
Colorado has just passed a major gun control bill that is driving several companies to leave the state (Magpul, HiViz) and now is getting ready to turn over control to the Feds. Since the beginning of 2013 many sheriffs across the nation have pledged they would not enforce unconstitutional gun laws or participate in a confiscation. A move started in Kentucky I believe and quickly spread included pledges from every singe sheriff in Florida. Now the governor of Colorado has a bill on his desk giving the Secret Service the ability to arrest anyone not complying with the new laws (even though no laws have yet to be enacted). This country has a deep divide and it is not between the north and south or even races. It is between those who think that they are the ruling elite and the rest of us.
Colorado, Senate Bill SB-13-013 has evidently just passed, and is now ready to be signed by the governor, giving police powers and arrest authority to the federal/executive branch of government (Secret Service) within the State.
“I believe there doesn’t have to be a conflict in reconciling these realities,” Obama said in Denver, where he stepped up his call for background checks for all gun purchases and renewed his demand that Congress at least vote on banning assault weapons and limiting access to large-capacity ammunition magazines.
The president dismissed gun owners’ concerns that gun control legislation could be a stepping stone to gun confiscation in the U.S., saying “I am constrained by a system our founders put in place.”
He is no doubt discusted by the fact that he cannot have more power. He previously said it would be easier to be a dictator. Liberals have always been angered in the fact that our constitution acknoledges certain rights (not gives) and that it is so hard to change.
the Preamble of the Arms Trade Treaty points to the United Nations Charter as the source of guiding principles upon which the agreement is based. Citizens of the United States, however, recognize God as the source of all rights they enjoy. Not even the Constitution claims to be the giver of rights; it is merely the protector of them.
This treaty must never be ratified by our government. No government is the giver of rights, they can only infringe or defend them. Civillian disarmament has always been the goal of the UN and this agenda gets pushed every year. In my opinion it should be thrown out of the US.
Now every time you sell or give a weapon, that weapon will be registered. That is if you live in the totalitarian city of Chicago. You could get a $5000 fin and six months in jail. You coud also get this if a relative steals your guns and you don’t relize it or if you go on vacation and your house gets robbed and you cannot meet the 48 hour exemption. And as far as the destruction rule goes, if a gun is worn enough that it does not fire every time is that included in the “destruction” clause. After all a man did go to jail because his semi-auto was worn enough that it once fired full auto.
When will we learn, the government wants a political elite ruling class that don’t follow the same rules that apply to you and I. Remember Diane Feinstien has a concealed carry permit from CA. Here the astronaut husband of Gabby Giffords, the congress woman who was shot, was caught buying an AR-15 and a handgun the day before attending a rally to ban the weapon he just purchased. It just goes to show you they have a “do as I say not as I do” mentality.
I just had a background check a few days ago when I went to my local gun store to buy a .45. As I was leaving, I noticed a used AR-15. Bought that too…
Update: Well this story just keeps getting better and better. Now we have a picture of Gabby herself posing with an AR-15 during the campaign to “toughen up her image”. I guess people who voted for her previously are cringing now. (She is no longer in office at this time Mar, 2013).
Here is another incident you probably never heard about.
On September 28, 1868, a mob of Democratsmassacred nearly 300 African-American Republicans in Opelousas, Louisiana. The savagery began when racist Democrats attacked a newspaper editor, a white Republican and schoolteacher for ex-slaves. Several African-Americans rushed to the assistance of their friend, and in response, Democrats went on a “Negro hunt,” killing every African-American (all of whom were Republicans) in the area they could find. (Via Grand Old Partisan)
The blacks didn’t have guns. Democrats took them.
